Liz Richter, an agency veteran, has been named acting head of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), according to the CMS website. Richter has worked at CMS since 1990, covering a range of Medicare payment issues; she was most recently deputy center director of the Center for Medicare—where she oversaw the fee-for-service portion of Medicare. Pres. Biden’s pick to head Health and Human Services is awaiting confirmation. See her profile here
 
Apria, which provides home medical equipment and in-home respiratory services, is preparing for an IPO. The company filed last week to raise up to $100 million—although Renaissance Capital predicts it could raise up to eight times that. The Indianapolis-based company booked $1.1 billion in sales for the 12 months ending Sept. 30 and serves more than 2 million patients per year in 290 locations, with a focus on home oxygen, CPAP and negative pressure wound therapy.
