Happy New Year! We may have thought 2021 would be different, but much of the news is still about the continuing public health emergency. In good news, this week Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar urged states to vaccinate more seniors and others who are high-risk—including offering unused doses to people 65 and over.
In other COVID-19 news,
the Washington Post questions whether all of the ventilators ordered by the government during the earlier days of the crisis were even usable for the disease. And
the Sacramento Bee reports that fewer than 950 of California’s statewide stockpile of 14,000 ventilators had been distributed.
If you weren’t anxious enough, Checkpoint Software Technologies Ltd. reports that cyberattacks on health care have increased 45% since the beginning of November. That’s much higher than in other industries. Hospitals seem to be the focus for ransomware attacks, but is your data safe?
