There’s news this week of a huge home medical equipment industry deal: HME company AdaptHealth announced this week it is the buying respiratory and sleep therapy firm AeroCare Holdings in a package worth about $2 billion. Both companies have a history of acquisitions and say the combined company will be the largest independent HME provider. Read more.
 
Who will get the COVID-19 vaccine first? Homecare and hospice organizations are urging the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to prioritize homecare workers in a letter signed by the National Association for Home Care & Hospice and several others. The American Association for Home Care has also asked for home medical equipment providers to be included. Read more.
 
Bloomberg Law is reporting that a federal judge has ordered a $1.1 million settlement in a lawsuit about overtime payments to home health workers. Steps Home Health Care Agencies Can Take to Help Prevent Elder Abuse
Statistics show that 1 in 10 adults over age 60 suffers from elder abuse. In large part, this abuse is by home health care providers or another person the senior trusts. The most significant risk factor for abuse is the provider’s exclusive one-on-one exposure to the client, ranging from two to 24 hours a day.
