CARY, N.C. (February 3, 2021)—The Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC), a nonprofit accreditation organization with deeming authority from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), has been selected as the preferred accrediting organization of the Oceti Sakowin Sioux Nation of Governments, the Dahcotah-Nakota-Lakota, and the Sioux Territory Country-1851-1868 Treaty Community. ACHC will work with tribal-authorized health care providers to enhance the delivery and quality of health care to the Oceti Sakowin’s seven sub-nations.
ACHC recently accredited Assisteo North Hospice, LLC, in Cottonwood, Ariz., a hospice facility dedicated to care of the indigenous population.
“We are truly honored that the Oceti Sakowin Elders are trusting our customer- and education-centered accreditation model to help drive improvements and overall health awareness for the Great Sioux Nation and its constituents,” said José Domingos, president and CEO of ACHC. “This partnership will leverage ACHC’s expertise in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, home health, outpatient services, hospice and telehealth.”
The resolution, signed by Oceti Sakowin Elders, further designates and acknowledges the efforts of Dr. Vahan Setyan, MS, PhD, who as a Treaty Council Authorized Agent on Healthcare and Economic Development has helped address a variety of acute care, hospice, ambulatory and clinical laboratory needs of the Oceti Sakowin Nation.
“Our collective goal is to grow and improve health care for all individuals, whether they reside on sovereign lands or not,” said Setyan. “ACHC is known for its commitment to education and customer service, both of which are vitally important to the provider organizations that serve the diverse healthcare needs of our tribal communities.”
