BOSTON (February 10, 2020)—CareAcademy, a homecare and home health workforce empowerment platform, today announced a strategic partnership with the Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY), one of the nation's largest not-for-profit home- and community-based health care organizations. By leveraging CareAcademy’s mobile training and compliance platform, Partners in Care, a part of VNSNY that provides home health aide and private pay services, will empower its staff to achieve and maintain home care certification via online courses for the first time in New York State history. While New York has traditionally required in-person homecare training and certification, the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic have forced homecare agencies to innovate and leverage remote tools to train and certify their workforce.

“With over 6,500 home health aides on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic each day, we have constantly examined ways to improve how we deliver care, and how we engage with our workforce to ensure that the vulnerable New Yorkers who depend on us receive the care they need,” said Dan Savitt, president and CEO of Visiting Nurse Service of New York. “Partnering with CareAcademy to deliver high-quality, on-demand training for our direct care workforce is one of the bright spots to come from this focused effort,” added Savitt. “For the first time, we can provide the critical training our staff requires in a flexible manner, enabling them to safely receive training when and where it is convenient for them. This ensures that our staff is able to execute at the highest level possible as we serve the more than 44,000 people in our care each day.”

“The success of this new online training program expands our ability to attract and retain some of the best talent out there and to take care of our consumers now and in the future,” said James Rolla, SVP for partners in care.

“The future of health care depends on our ability to be adaptable, especially in such turbulent times, and along with our stellar Education and Recruitment teams we now have a new tool in our tool belt to be even more successful,” added Anthony Dawson, VP, quality and customer experience.

CareAcademy’s mission is to upskill and prepare direct care workers to meet the growing demand for home-based care serving older adults. Through its partnership with CareAcademy, VNSNY homecare workers can now access vital training online while complying with local and federal regulations.

“CareAcademy is committed to providing online access to home care training and certification, meeting direct care workers where they are, whether that be on a computer, tablet or mobile device,” said CareAcademy CEO and Founder Helen Adeosun. “The COVID-19 pandemic has directly impacted how agencies operating in New York State and the country at large prepare their workforce. We look forward to providing VNSNY with the tools to certify its workforce safely and remotely, in a way that is both user-friendly and fits with any schedule.”
